After hundreds of students, at Kitesur we've seen the same mistakes again and again in the first sessions. Knowing them in advance helps you fix them much sooner.

Looking at the board instead of where you're going

This is the most common one: during the water start, the instinct is to look at your feet to place them properly. The problem is that if you look down, your body tends to lean forward and you lose balance. Look at the horizon, in the direction you want to ride.

Oversteering the bar

Sudden bar movements create surges of power that destabilise you more than they help. The smoother and smaller your adjustments, the more real control you have over the kite.

Leaving the kite "parked" in the window

Out of fear, many beginners keep the kite in the power zone all the time. Learning to move it deliberately within the wind window is what lets you dose the pull as you need it.

Overconfidence after the first rides

As soon as they ride their first metres, it's common to want to go off riding alone too early. Consolidating the water start and first runs under supervision avoids unnecessary crashes and scares later on.

The good news: all these mistakes are normal and part of learning. With on-the-spot correction you get past them much faster than by trial and error on your own.
